Lockdown measures in Ontario connected to fewer early premature births, study finds

TORONTO Ontario saw fewer early premature births during the first six months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and a new study is suggesting that it may be associated with strict lockdown measures. Unity Health Toronto released their findings on Wednesday, saying they examined just over 67,000 births in Ontario between March and September 2020, and marked a “small, but significant” reduction in very early premature births compared to the same time periods from the previous five years. A pregnancy typically lasts about 40 weeks, and a baby is considered preterm or premature if it is delivered before 37 weeks. If the baby is born before 32 weeks, it’s considered a very early preterm birth.

Unity Health halts vaccinations at two hospital clinics amid supply issue

Published Thursday, April 15, 2021 11:33PM EDT A lack of vaccine supply has prompted vaccination clinics at two hospitals in the city to stop booking new appointments. Unity Health Toronto said Thursday that clinics at St. Joseph’s and St. Michael’s will be closed as of April 18 and won’t reopen until at least April 26. The closure will not affect existing appointments “but may be changed to accommodate new clinic hours,” the hospital said in an update on its website. “We will share more information with you when first dose appointments are available again at these clinics based on vaccine supply.”
