  TORONTO Ontario’s long-term care minister rejected calls for her resignation Tuesday while blaming the leader of the opposition for the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the province’s 626 nursing homes. “Look at your failure. I was left to pick up the pieces from a devastating 15 years of neglect,” Minister Merrilee Fullerton said during question period at Queen’s Park. “I will not be spoken to that way by the leader of the opposition that neglected this sector.” Fullerton’s comments were directed at NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, who first openly called for her resignation from cabinet yesterday.

Article content Teachers and education workers will be able to book their COVID-19 vaccine starting Thursday, the province and North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit confirmed. As of 8 a.m. Thursday, the following groups will be eligible to book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment through the provincial online booking system and call centre, or through their public health units: Individuals turning 50 and over in 2021 Individuals with high-risk health conditions People who cannot work from home who fall under Group 1, including remaining elementary and secondary school workers First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals The province stated in a media release over the weekend that “due to a stable and reliable increase in vaccine supply, this week, the Ontario government will further expand booking eligibility for COVID-19 vaccination appointments across the province.”
