NVCC Students Benefit from Increase in Scholarships

Reply WATERBURY, CT - The fundraising efforts of Naugatuck Valley Community College s Associate Dean of Development, Angela Chapman, and the NVCC Foundation have resulted in an increase of scholarships and awards to students from 115 in 2019 to 203 in 2020. One of the outcomes of this increase is the creation of new endowment and scholarship funds. The generosity of our donors directly impacts the ability of students to reach their educational goals, Chapman commented, and she described a couple of the new NVCC scholarships that support students in various disciplines. Our students, NVCC CEO Lisa Dresdner, Ph.D., states, are at the heart of all we do at the college, and we are immensely grateful for the generosity of donors and the hard work of the Foundation that supports our students realizing their dreams.

Now Carmen Gray is planning to use food and cooking as a way to engage the community in a discussion to support mental health and combat violence in an interactive program she titled “Who Cracked My Egg?” For the program, Carmen Gray is extending a virtual invitation for everyone to join her in her kitchen in Palm Coast from 7 to 8 p.m. on April 13. Participants can choose from three recipes to cook. They can cook one or all three. She asks that people join 10 minutes before the program starts. “It’s an educational piece in which I’m able to show through the simplicity of a three-part egg: the shell; the yolk; the egg white,” Gray said, “to break those down to show what happens when trauma happens to an individual.”

New Health Scholarship For Whānau Ora

Saturday, 13 March 2021, 2:12 pm Te Arawa Whānau Ora has announced its new scholarship in memory of former CEO and stalwart, Mala Grant, who passed away last year. The Ngaroma (Mala) Grant Memorial Scholarship aims to support a Māori undergraduate student studying in health or social services, with the aspiration of supporting whānau to thrive in Te Arawa. TAWO Chairman, Te Ururoa Flavell, says Mala’s passing was a significant loss to her whānau, hapū and iwi, and the Whānau Ora collective. However, the scholarship will help other Te Arawa tāngata (people) follow in her footsteps.
