CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. â In any missing person s case, authorities often highlight the importance of the first 48 to 72 hours of an investigation.
Within that time frame, investigators have the best chance to generate leads, preserve evidence and obtain accurate information.
According to former Bakersfield Police Department Lieutenant Gary Carruesco, the chances of a successful outcome begin to fade past that period and for missing children, that timeline moves even faster.
Three-year-old Orson West and 4-year-old Orrin West have been missing since Dec. 21, according to what their adoptive parents told the California City Police Department.

A California community is searching for answers in the disappearance of two brothers who vanished from their backyard.
On Dec. 21, 3-year-old Orson and 4-year-old Orrin West were playing with chalk in their family s California City backyard. According to their adoptive father, Trezol West, their adoptive mother, Jacqueline West, was inside wrapping presents while he was out back gathering fire wood. “I came in the house,” Trezol West told KGET. “I saw them there, went into the house, came back out, didn’t see them there.”
A hunt is underway for two brothers who went missing after playing in their backyard as their adoptive parents are quizzed and their home in California is searched.
Three-year-old Orson and Orrin West, four, were reported missing after playing outside their home in the 10700 block of Aspen Avenue, California City on Monday.
Parents-of-six Trezol and Jaqueline West, who fostered the brothers in 2018 and adopted them the year after, have been questioned by police and federal agents.

Two brothers missing from California home
UPDATE FEB – Security camera footage from a neighbor shows an adult holding the door open on December 19, while four children go into the van. Then later that day two adults, which appear to be Trazell and Jacqueline West, come back to the house without any kids.
UPDATE 1/21/21 – California City Police Chief Jon Walker told media today that, “We’ve looked everywhere possible in a house we could possibly look,” Walker said. “We brought in search dogs, cadaver dogs, any dog you can think of has been in that house and has not had any kids anywhere in the house.”
