Lisa Rae Glazier, 48, dedicated public servant known for her compassion and courage

WILMINGTON Lisa Rae Glazier, 48, peacefully passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center with her husband and mother at her side. Lisa was born Nov. 13, 1972, in Concord, the daughter of Norma Hunnings Dunn and David Ray Dunn. Lisa grew up near the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, where she developed a lifelong love for the beach, sunshine and flip-flops. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Family Services and Early Child Development from East Carolina University. She was a dedicated public servant working for several non-profit agencies and North Carolina’s Child Development Service Agency. She spent most of her career coordinating services for children with special needs. Lisa had a compassionate heart with great empathy for new mothers. She would often befriend mothers who were isolated by the demands of caring for young children with special needs. DOI: 10.1093/obo/9780199756810-0272 Introduction: Partnerships with Families in the Early Years, birth-8 Parental involvement, engagement, and partnerships within the early years have become key policy directions in many countries in recent years (see the separate Oxford Bibliographies article in Education Family Policy and Its Relation to Early Childhood). Since the early 2000s there has been a global push to include guidelines for educators that focus on the engagement and enactment of partnerships with families, especially in the early years. However, the family-educator partnership literature is varied, does not reach consensus on what is meant by “partnership,” and fails to provide a clear definition of parent-family partnerships in early years settings. This lack of a clear definition and the interchangeability of terms used to describe the phenomena creates ambiguity of what authentic partnerships are and often culminates in a deficit approach to the discussion.
