CORONADO, Calif. A videotaped tortilla-throwing incident between two high school basketball teams in June is still a topic of conversation.
The video shows tortillas being thrown at Orange Glen High School players after they initially lost the CIF championship basketball game. The Coronado coach was quickly fired. CIF stripped Coronado High School of its championship title a week later after Latino advocacy groups advocated for consequences.

‘Movies in the Park’ features ‘Dragon’
“Raya and the Last Dragon” is the free feature movie scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday at Pine Valley County Park, 28810 Old Highway 80, Pine Valley. CUSD appoints District Safety Coordinator
The Carlsbad Unified School District has appointed Malcolm Warfield as the District Safety Coordinator, a new part-time position. Warfield has more than 17 years of law enforcement experience, previously working as a deputy sheriff with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, and as a law officer with the Lakewood (Colo.) Police Department and a police officer with the Carlsbad Police Department. He is an active member of the California State Juvenile Officers Association, and is an associate faculty member at MiraCosta College. Warfield will serve in a dual role as the Juvenile Justice Program Coordinator for the Carlsbad Police Department and as the Carlsbad school district’s safety coordinator. In his work with the district, he will be the district liaison for School Resource Officers and first responders; will oversee and evaluate site safety plans; and do ongoing evaluation of site security needs.
