The Orange County Transportation Authority and Metrolink invite the public to learn more about a proposed railroad track project in Dana Point to provide safer and more reliable train service.
The Serra Siding Extension Project, currently in the environmental and planning phase, would extend 1.2 miles of siding track along the existing rail right-of-way, south from Victoria Boulevard, ending just before Beach Road. The siding track runs next to the main track and allows trains to pass each other. The project would prevent delays and enable more frequent train service.
A virtual public meeting, which will allow the public to learn more about the project and the environmental review process and ask questions, is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The meeting will be held in English and Spanish and a recording will be available the next day. To register for the event, visit octa.net/SerraSiding.

The Orange County Transportation Authority is introducing more students to the convenience and affordability of public transit by expanding its student bus pass program to Cypress College – a shared-cost program that allows enrolled students to travel free on any OC Bus fixed route.
The program started with the spring semester at Cypress earlier this month. Full-time and part-time students have access to unlimited rides on all OC Bus local routes. Cypress students can now enjoy a free, comfortable ride while avoiding parking costs and hassles and contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment.
“This program achieves two important goals, helping students understand how convenient and beneficial public transit can be and, at the same time, it helps those students get to their classes and put them on a clearer path to achieving their dreams,” said OCTA Chairman Andrew Do. “It’s great to have Cypress College on board and to help offer a more accessible higher-education syst
The Orange County Transportation Authority has completed work on a new passing siding railroad track in Laguna Niguel and San Juan Capistrano that reduces delays and enhances safety for rail traffic traveling through the area.
The project added 1.8 miles of new passing siding railroad track between the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink Station and Trabuco Creek in San Juan Capistrano, running adjacent to the I-5 freeway.
The $36.4 million project was led by OCTA, and built by Reyes Construction, in collaboration with Metrolink and the cities of San Juan Capistrano and Laguna Niguel. Enhanced safety measures were taken during the COVID-19 pandemic and, with strong collaboration between all partners on the project, it was finished approximately three months ahead of schedule.
