It feels like a very long time since I wrote about last year’s Oscar-nominated short subjects, and indeed it’s been slightly
more than a year in 2020, the shorts were released theatrically in January, immediately prior to the Academy’s Feb. 9 awards ceremony. This year, the pandemic has pushed the Oscars all the way to April 25, and the shorts are only now being made available via Rialto Cinemas Elmwood and the Virtual Roxie.
There are a whopping eight films in this year’s animation category, and, to be honest, it’s a fairly weak crop. By far the best of the bunch is Erick Oh’s

1. Blueberry U-Pick: Grab a bucket. Wish Farms in Plant City has opened up its fields every Saturday for berry picking. Simply bring a container and pick as many blueberries as you want. It is $7 per pound to pick blueberries in the fields from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays through May 1. As reported by RÚV, the Icelandic animated short film directed by Gísli Darri Halldórsson, “Yes-People”, has been nominated for an Oscar within the category, Best Animated Short Film, as part of the 93rd edition of the Academy Awards.
This Oscar nomination joins the list of awards already won by the film, which include: “Best Icelandic Short Film” at Iceland’s Reykjavík International Film Festival, “Best Nordic-Baltic Short Film” at the Frederikstad Animation Festival in Norway, “Best European Short Film” at Spain’s Weird International Animation FF, and the “Audience Award” at the Uppsala Short Film Festival in Sweden.

The 93rd Oscar nominations have finally been announced, recognizing films released during a year where movie theaters were largely closed. If you’re looking to catch up on all of the nominees, we’ve compiled a list of every film that was nominated for an Academy Award this year and where to stream them.
Competing for best picture are “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Mank,” “Minari,” “Nomadland,” “Promising Young Woman,” “Sound of Metal,” “The Father” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”
The Oscars will be broadcast live on April 25 on ABC. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the only people who will be allowed to attend the event will be the nominees, their guests and the ceremony’s presenters.
