The Myanmar Roofed Turtle can be found only in Myanmar and were critically endangered species, says U Shwe Htay Aung, warden of the sanctuary. The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) started conserving 100 Myanmar roofed turtles - 40 males and 60 females - in 2011. The officials rented 16 Myanmar roofed turtles - 10 males and 6 females - to Singapore in 2016 and transferred 10 males to WCS/TSA to free them into Chindwin river in 2018. And so, there are 74 Myanmar roofed turtles 20 males and 54 females - in the sanctuary, he said.

OKC Zoo partners with alligator snapping turtle head start program to help vulnerable species The Shawnee News-Star The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden recently welcomed 11 young alligator snapping turtles to their temporary home in the Zoo’s Underground habitat, located inside the Children’s Zoo. Hatched at the Tishomingo National Fish Hatchery (TNFH), Tishomingo, Oklahoma, the turtles are a part of their head start program to raise, rear and introduce alligator snapping turtles back into their native habitat. The Zoo just received the first group of young alligator snapping turtles in partnership with TNFH and will continue to receive additional turtles as they continue to age out of the head start program.  The turtles will live at the Zoo’s Underground habitat until they have reached four years of age. At that time, they will be returned to TNFH, and then the turtles will be released into the wild.

Her death marked the beginning of the end for her species as the remaining living survivors are all males. Chances of any reproduction, be it natural or artificial, were gone.

The female 86kg (13 stone) turtle was found in Dong Mo lake, in Hanoi’s Son Tay district, and captured for genetic testing in October. DNA tests have nowconfirmed the animal is a Swinhoe’s softshell turtle, ( Rafetus swinhoei), the most endangered turtle in the world. Another turtle estimated to weigh 130kg was sighted in the lake, and conservationists hope that this could be another male.
