Aker Carbon Capture and Haldor Topsoe have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the intention to offer a complete solution for low-carbon hydrogen production.
The solution combines Haldor Topsoe’s proven hydrogen process and Aker Carbon Capture’s post-combustion carbon capture technology to achieve low-emission and cost-effective production of ‘blue’ hydrogen – a clean energy carrier with a wide array of applications in industry and as a fuel.
The European Union foresees investments of €11 billion for retrofitting half of the existing European hydrogen plants with carbon capture and storage before 2030.
“The collaboration with Aker Carbon Capture is an exciting opportunity to support customers in lowering their emissions from hydrogen production. Haldor Topsoe is a world leader in technology to produce hydrogen, and we are determined to lead the transition towards significant reductions in carbon emissions in this field and others,” said A

Grön Fuels, LLC has selected Haldor Topsoe’s (Lyngby, Denmark) HydroFlex renewable fuels and H2bridge bio-hydrogen technologies with bio-carbon capture and sequestration option for a multi-billion low-carbon-intensity complex in Louisiana.
The new facility, located at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, will produce renewable diesel, and includes the option to capture ~1 million tons per year of bio-CO
2 for carbon sequestration in suitable deep saline aquifers located below the project site. Following the expected completion of the first phase of the complex in 2024, the plant will produce 60,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel, including a permitted jet fuel option. Final investment decision for the first phase of the project is expected in 2021, making this complex the largest renewable fuel site in the world. The first phase of construction would involve a capital investment of over USD 1.25 billion and create 340 new direct jobs b
There’s been a lot of talk about “net zero carbon by 2050” – today’s let’s visit a vision of “below zero carbon before 2030.”
After all, it’s not every day of the week that a 900 million gallons renewable diesel project can be described as “phase one of a much bigger project”, but that’s the story with Fidelis Infrastructure and Gron Fuels’ plan to build, over nine years, a $9.2 billion dollar low carbon industrial park at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge in Louisiana. That’s 60,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel, including a permitted jet fuel option.
