PEORIA A shooting late Wednesday in northwest Peoria left one person dead, according to police.
Officers responded about 11:15 p.m. to the 3600 block of West Hedgehill Lane, where multiple gunshots had been reported. A caller suggested a gunshot victim was inside a vehicle in a parking lot at Hedgehill Apartments.
Instead, officers found the vehicle abandoned, according to police spokeswoman Amy Dotson. But a shooting victim, identified as male, was found on the ground nearby.
Rescue personnel began lifesaving measures, to no avail. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Peoria County Coroner s Office was expected to release additional information, including the victim s identity, once an autopsy was completed.

PEORIA, Ill. Peoria Police are investigating the city’s ninth homicide of the year.
Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said reports of multiple shots fired came from the Hedgehill Apartment Complex, located in the 3600 block of W. Hedgehill Lane, around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.
A caller also told police there was a possible victim inside a vehicle in the parking lot.
An abandoned vehicle was found. Dotson said a male victim with gunshot wounds was also found nearby on the ground.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have no suspect information at this time.
