TRIBUTES have been paid to a gentle giant and former shop owner after he died last week. John Jones, known locally as Big John , owned the Premier store in Blackrod for 30 years with his late wife Sandra, before handing it down to his son, Little John when he retired. His granddaughter Amy Jones said: He was a gentle giant, but he was always the life and soul of the room. He loved playing snooker and watching the racing. If the racing was on, there would be a queue in the shop - and he wouldn t serve customers again until the race was over.
