FACE/OFF Sequel In The Works From GODZILLA VS. KONG Director Adam Wingard
Though original reports pegged it as a remake,
Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard has now clarified that he is working on a direct sequel to John Woo s preposterous 90s action thriller,
Face/Off.
Face/Off sequel for Paramount.
Variety originally reported that the fan-favorite filmmaker was working on a remake of John Woo s 1997 action thriller, but Wingard and the project s co-writer Simon Barrett later took to social media to clarify that it s actually going to be a direct sequel.
The original starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage as an FBI special agent and a terrorist, respectively, who literally swap faces and assume each others identities (against the former s will). It s generally seen as a silly, but fun diversion, and has gained a strong cult following over the years.
Share I would NEVER re-imagine or remake FACE/OFF. It s a perfect action movie, he wrote, adding a photo of Cage screaming. Simon Barrett and I are writing a direct SEQUEL!
Neal Moritz will produce the film for Paramount and Hollywood veteran David Permut will also serve as executive producer.
Plenty of guns: Cage as his terrorist; but Travolta takes on his identity
Will she come back? Gina Gershon was in the original; seen here in bed with Cage
The first film was a hit with Travolta and Cage, who were still big action stars at the time, playing a cat and mouse game.
