RAPID CITY, S.D. Thanks to a new law passed in this last legislative session, South Dakota is adding a liaison office under the Attorney General for missing and murdered indigenous persons.
This weekend, a group met in Rapid City to figure out the best way to work with the new office.
“Bringing the Woman Nation Home” was an event sponsored by Cheyenne River Organization and Red Generation, and was held to make the community aware of issues that plague the Lakota people.
Issues discussed were MMIP, sex trafficking, laws, healing, and traditional approaches to healing. But, organizers stressed that these issues are not exclusive to women.

RAPID CITY, S.D. Severe weather awareness week kicks off April 19th, and in South Dakota we know that severe weather comes in many forms.
The beauty of the Black Hills draws tourists every year, but the National Weather Service wants people to prepare for the wild side of South Dakota… the weather. Thunderstorms, hail and occasionally tornadoes have been seen locally, and the NWS is encouraging residents to start prepping for the rollercoaster ahead.
“You should always know the forecast before heading out, especially if you’re gonna be outside,” said science and operations officer, Matthew Bunkers. “Also have a way to receive warning messages, and you get that through your cell phone, but you can also get that through NOAA weather radio. The nice thing about NOAA weather radios is they have battery backup and we have transmitters throughout the black hills, so you can get a signal from the no weather radio even though your cell phone m

RAPID CITY, S.D. Sunday, April 18 is National Lineworker Appreciation Day, a time to commemorate the men and women responsible for constructing and maintaining much of our energy infrastructure.
Local line and utility workers are a behind the scenes component of Black Hills Energy. Once referred to as linemen, the field has grown to include women, who are now referred to as line workers. They repair, maintain, and put up new power-lines that keep electricity running through the city, and during bad weather, their job of getting power back on for residents is even more crucial.
“It never fails that we usually get called into work when it’s freezing cold out, blowing wind and rain,” said apprentice lineworker, Ryan Wright. “Middle of the the storm kind of thing. And it can really test your mental and physical toughness I guess. You just have to kind of keep your wits about you, and think through everything.

RAPID CITY, S.D. In an effort to get unused drugs off the street, the Drug Enforcement Administration has announced its 20th Take Back Day.
Take Back Day allows people to anonymously turn in expired, unwanted, and unused prescription medications to designated areas. The past year saw a record-high number for drug collections. With over 83,000 Americans suffering from overdoses last year, and close to 500 tons of unwanted drugs being collected, the DEA is stressing take back day this year.
They are also reminding people, although Take Back Day is officially held April 24th, there are always opportunities to turn in old prescriptions.
