NEW YORK, June 1 (Xinhua) U.S. stocks on Tuesday kicked off the holiday-abbreviated trading week on an upbeat note, buoyed by strong gains in energy shares. Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 190.43 points, or 0.55 percent, to 34,719.48. The S&P 500 was up 19.72 points, or 0.47 percent, to 4,223.83. The Nasdaq Composite Index added 71.42 points, or 0.52 percent, to 13,820.16. Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors advanced, with energy up more than 3 percent in morning trading, leading the gainers. The health care and utilities groups, however, struggled.
