And as Premier Jason Kenney added further restrictions provincewide Thursday, he confirmed most other grade 7 to 12 students in urban areas will also move to online learning, including all Calgary schools beyond those two districts.
“The restrictions currently in place will not bend the curve fast enough to get this under control by summer,” Kenney said, promising to work with restaurants to ensure protocols are followed during outdoor dining.

There have been 27,921 variant cases ID’d in the province, 1,058 new today. There are 1,383 in the South Zone.
13,193 active cases (63.2 per cent of total) have been identified as variants of concern.

There are now 643 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 145 of which are in ICU, and 2,073 deaths.
The province completed 18,976 tests in the past 24 hours.
The positivity rate is about 9.8 per cent.
Alberta has administered 1,497,256 of vaccine at the latest update.

Parents are calling for innovation and leadership as 28 Calgary schools face major COVID-19 outbreaks of 10 or more cases 18 of which are high schools and more than 6,300 students in isolation.
Among those as of Tuesday, Sir Winston Churchill High School hit 25 total cases, while Western Canada High School moved all Grade 10 students to online learning until at least April 26.

Alberta Health also confirmed schools have hit new highs, with 453, or 19 per cent of all schools in the province now with active alerts or outbreaks of cases of the novel coronavirus.
