Meat producer confirms paid ransom to hackers

LOS ANGELES, June 9 (Xinhua) Major meat producer JBS USA confirmed on Wednesday that the company paid an equivalent of 11 million U.S. dollars in ransom in response to the criminal hack against its operations last week. JBS USA, with headquarters in Greeley, Colorado, had to temporarily halt production at its beef plants across the country following the ransomware attack, as its computer systems in North America and Australia were severely affected by the attack. The company said in a statement Wednesday that the vast majority of the company s facilities were operational at the time of payment.
Meat processing giant JBS has dished out around £7.8m in a crypto ransom to rid its networks of hackers in a major cyber-attack, the company confirmed last night.
The decision to pay the ransom demanded by the cybercriminal group was to avoid any further issues or potential problems for its customers, according to the company’s CEO.
Island FM The world s largest meat processing company has paid a ransom worth $11m (£7.8m) to hackers behind a cyber attack on its computer systems.
JBS - which produces almost a quarter of America s beef - confirmed it handed over the funds on Wednesday.
It comes after the Brazil-based company revealed on 31 May how its network had been targeted.
The FBI has attributed the ransomware attack to a Russian-speaking gang, REvil, and has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
