MEDFORD, MA A seventh grade student at the Andrews Middle School is a finalist for the statewide MathCounts competition. Adrita Samanta finished sixth in the MathCounts Chapter Invitational. By doing so, she qualified for the state round of the competition that will take place in three weeks, Faiza Khan, math director and co-advisor of Medford s Math Club, said in a statement.
The competition began with 2,000 kids from across Massachusetts. Only 300 students qualified for the Chapter Invitational, and Samanta was among 45 kids who moved on to the State Invitational.

ANDREWS, Texas The sixth graders of Andrews Middle School are on a mission. They all had different things to say like. I really like that we get to find ways to help our community, Tatum Holley, Andrew s 6th grader said. We re like a team, Leah Mancillas, Andrews 6th grader said. They look beyond themselves and do something for the community, said Holly Edwards, 6th-grade Future Problem-Solvers Coach.
Every year this group looks to solve or help lessen a problem, and last year COVID-19 and the oil bust were their main focuses.
