Few artists have managed to reproduce a contemporary soul style as well as Sade Adu, a female vocalist who would become celebrated for introducing a new genre to the world of music; sophisticated pop. Born in Nigeria and moving to England as a young child with her mother, Sade grew up listening to the classic staples of American soul music such as Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, and Marvin Gaye, forming her initial foundation for her love of music. Initially attracted to fashion, she began her career in art school, but later discovered her fondness of songwriting after a few friends from school asked her to join their band as lead vocalist. A former Farmington Bank branch in Rocky Hill has been leased by a North Carolina-based healthcare diagnostics company that has growth ambitions in Connecticut.
Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings, or LabCorp, is a publicly traded life sciences company that provides diagnostics and drug development services. It has subleased 1,800 square feet at 366 Cromwell Ave. in Rocky Hill, according to Andrew Hale and Thomas Wilks of O,R&L Commercial, which represented the property owner, People’s United Bank.
People’s United took over the property s lease following its $544 million purchase of Farmington Bank in 2018. The 7,800-square retail building is owned by Mozzicato family has other tenants, including Battiston s of Rocky Hill.
A Plainville-based security systems installer has acquired a former United Bank branch in Southington for $1 million and plans to relocate its business there.
Trusted Properties, led by Jerry Brocki, who is managing member of a Security 101 franchise in Plainville, acquired 158 North Main St. late last year from People’s United Bank.
The 5,284-square-foot building, which sits on an acre of land, was previously a United Bank branch. People’s United closed the branch, along with 17 others, after acquiring United in 2019.
