Attorneys, medical experts question Stroupe II s capacity to represent himself in capital murder trial An attorney for Phillip Michael Stroupe II is questioning his capacity to represent himself in his capital murder trial.  Stroupe is charged with first-degree murder in the July 26, 2017 death of Mills River resident Tommy Bryson. Superior Court Judge W. Robert Bell of Mecklenburg County ruled in March that Stroupe could represent himself. Stroupe is also charged with first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon. The state is seeking the death penalty. District Attorney Andrew Murray and Stroupe s standby attorneys declined to comment on the case.

DA drops charges against Stroupe Sr in 2017 murder case

Two felony charges against Phillip Michael Stroupe Sr. have been dropped, District Attorney Andrew Murray confirmed. Stroupe Sr. is the father of Phillip Stroupe II, who was charged with kidnapping, first-degree murder and more than a dozen other charges across five counties following the death of Thomas Bryson in 2017.  The dismissal signed by Murray May 18 in Henderson County Superior Court says the charges, based on the same information, were dropped due to a lack of evidence that Stroupe Sr. understood or acted on information his son gave him during a prison visit about the location of Bryson s body.  Stroupe Sr. was charged with accessory after the fact of kidnapping and accessory after the fact of first-degree murder.

May 21, 2021 Freedom. Who would’ve thought a mere seven-letter phrase could shape an entire society? It is ingrained into our very being from the time we are young that America is a land of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. It is easily our most beloved maxim. We have come to accept it, however, without truly thinking about not only its serious implications, but how it has shaped the way we think about our lives. Looking at Jesus’ life, I see a picture that is actually quite the opposite of Life, Liberty and Happiness. He calls us to Death, Servitude and the Pursuit of Obedience. Yes, I did just say that Jesus’ call for our lives is basically the antithesis of what American culture expects of us.

Mother indicted on first-degree murder in stabbing of 5-year-old daughter Teresa Penny Short Hartle, 50, of Hendersonville, has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death of her 5-year-old daughter, according to District Attorney Andrew Murray.  A grand jury indicted Hartle on the charge Monday. She was originally charged with second-degree murder on April 25. Murray declined to say why the charge was upgraded. First-degree murder is punishable by either life in prison without parole or the death penalty. The child s body was discovered by her father in their home at 265 Fiesta Lane in the Fruitland community of Hendersonville on April 25, according to a 911 call from the father.
