New details have been released that reveals how much West Lothian’s councillors were paid as an annual salary, along with allowances and expenses.
Pending “Basel III” regulations emanating from the Bank for International Settlements could destroy the clearing and settlement system for “unallocated” – that is, “paper” or imaginary – gold and silver, the London Bullion Market Association and the World Gold Council warned the Bank of England this week.
In a 58-page protest submitted to the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority, the LBMA and the World Gold Council complained that the “Net Stable Funding Ratio” provision of the Basel III regulations would require the London bullion banks to hold funds offsetting 85 percent of the value of the unallocated gold they hold for customers, and the banks could not afford this.

Grace Staberg spent a good bit of time picturing how her attempt at a world record would go.
The 19-year-old Silverthorne resident, who set a goal of breaking the women’s 24-hour world uphill ski record (57,980 feet, set earlier this winter by Italy’s Martina Valmassoi), planned on consuming 300 calories of real food an hour during the effort, including jelly sandwiches and oatmeal. She envisioned chatting with the friends accompanying her on many 2,630-foot vertical laps that involved skinning up a mountain slope and skiing down. And she certainly thought she’d be able to take a quick pee break.
