One of the best ones in a while
By Andrew McManus - Movie Review
I am sure you were expecting Spiral the “next” installment of the Saw franchise. Don’t worry! That will be next week’s review. My co-reviewer may be a bigger horror buff than me and she went on vacation.
That being said, this week’s review was one I was HIGHLY excited for. First, I couldn’t remember Angelina Jolie in a movie in quite some time. She usually churns at good films. Also that supporting cast! You’ll notice the names are familiar.
We have Jon Bernthal (Shane from The Walking Dead and The Punisher) Nicholas Hoult (X-Men) and of course Aiden Gillen (a VILE man in Game of Thrones.) The director Taylor Sheridan has released absolutely fantastic films in the last few years (Hell or High Water I highly recommend.) Yes, you were expecting a horror review, but how about an old-fashioned thriller. There is fire.
Top notch cast helps with cheesy monologue
by Andrew McManus - Movie Review
When I think of Jason Statham movies, I don’t get overly excited. I love action films like most, but he is usually hit or miss. To me, the trailers seemed a little too cookie-cutter than normal. However, the supporting cast seemed well-rounded. (Josh Hartnett sighting) and I then realized this is a Guy Ritchie directed film.
Snatch being the best of these films. Statham and Ritchie have worked together in four previous films. (Wrath of Man is also based on a French film from 2004 called Cash Truck (very original name.) My co-reviewer missed out this week but spoiler alert she would have scored this higher than me. I don’t want to be mean with the review – Abby.
Mortal Kombat: mediocrity at its finest
By Andrew McManus - Contributing Columnist
As summer approaches we are seeing more tent-pole films open up. Recently with Godzilla vs. Kong and now MORTAL KOMBAT!
I remember the original film that came out in 1995 and its sequel. Maybe it’s because I was a kid and always wanted to play the video game (I never got it.) But I thought the movie was awesome. The premise of this original and of the reboot is easy to follow. There is a martial arts tournament between warriors from Earth and the Outworld (mostly bad guys.)

The realities of anti-Blackness on the Prairies became hypervisible in the summer of 2020.
Massive protests catalyzed by the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis swept across Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta, bringing renewed attention to the many Black and Indigenous victims of police violence in Canada.
