The state’s train network will be powered by renewable energy within four years under an ambitious plan outlined by NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance, who is also pushing to retrofit some harbour ferries with electric engines.
Mr Constance said state and federal governments needed to lead the way in Australia’s transition to renewable energy as he outlined a vision for a greener public transport fleet.

NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance says 21 homes or businesses will be acquired as a result of the new $500 million Richmond Bridge project.
The federal government announced on Monday it will pledge $400 million towards the $500 million project which will cut 12 minutes off travel times for commuters, ensuring the safety of residents in Sydney’s west.
“We have a combination of partial acquisitions and full acquisitions,” Mr Constance said.
“One of the challenges is when we make major infrastructure investments like this we have to do it in a timely and concurrent way because we have seen, and we don’t want to see gaming particular amongst developers across the city with such a large infrastructure program.
“If I had a way in which in which we weren’t able to disrupt people’s lives to build major infrastructure for everybody I’d love to do it.
