James Hall & Co, the SPAR wholesaler for the north of England, has announced that it will be hosting a virtual ‘Meet the Buyer’ event aimed at local businesses.
Open to 1,600 members of the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, the event on 18 May will enable local suppliers to meet the wholesaler’s trading team, who are responsible for sourcing products for over 600 SPAR stores across the north of England.
Andrew Barnes, Trading Director at James Hall & Co, said: “If the last 12 months has taught us anything it’s the importance of local family businesses supporting one another. We’ve always tried to work with local suppliers, however big or small, but it’s now more vital than ever. It puts money back into local communities, helps reduce food miles in the supply chain, minimises environmental impact and helps develop sustainable, long-term partnerships.

Facebook posts by two Springfield police officers last year harmed police operations and community relations. That was the conclusion of internal affairs investigations by the city police department, as well as reactions from capital city activists working to improve the relationship between law enforcement and the people they serve.
In a widely reported incident last May, Officer Andrew Barnes criticized the city’s two Black city council members. In a post on his personal Facebook page, Barnes called Ald. Shawn Gregory a “fucking idiot.” Barnes was pushing back on comments made by Gregory and then-Ald. Doris Turner in which the two criticized how police responded to block parties in Gregory’s majority-Black ward.

Ghana’s speaker of parliament has rejected a request by Australia’s high commissioner to Ghana to pass legislation in favour of LGBT+ rights.
Speaker Alban Bagbin emphatically shot down any hope held by both local and international LGBT+ advocates that the legislature would pass pro-LGBT+ laws anytime soon.
Envoy Andrew Barnes had urged Ghana’s lawmakers to stop curtailing further the rights of its queer citizens and to instead “adapt”.
