There was a time when New York Governor Andrew Cuomo held his domain in an iron grip. He was untouchable. That time has passed. From the clever moniker “Governor Death” – earned after thousands of nursing home residents died because of his policy – to the myriad accusers coming out of the woodwork to expose a history of sexual abuse and bullying, Cuomo’s kingdom is crumbling.
Now that even many in his own Democratic Party are cutting ties and he faces removal, the governor has agreed to significantly increase taxes on the wealthy – a move he has avoided his entire career. Is the faltering king of New York reaching desperately for a lifeline from progressives in the Empire State – one final Hail Mary to stave off his doom? The issue
As part of a $212 billion state budget, New York lawmakers created a $2.1 billion relief fund reserved for its illegal immigrant population and other unemployed workers who did not qualify for federal stimulus benefits.

New York City schools are slated to get $1.3 billion more than last year under the state’s budget expected to pass Wednesday, providing a massive financial boost as students and educators rebound from more than a year of disrupted learning.
In all, New York City schools are expected to get $11.86 billion from the state plus $6.9 billion from the federal government.
The state’s budget plan, which covers April 1 through March 30, 2022, would have been hard to fathom last summer, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned that a pandemic-fueled budget crisis could mean up to 20% cuts for education funding.
