LANDO NORRIS, #4 12th  Not a perfect day, a couple of issues here and there which interrupted some of our running. It wasn t too bad, it just meant we didn t quite get through the run plan as easily as we wanted to. We definitely have some work to do overnight on some things. I think there’s some quite clear areas we can focus on that, if we improve them a little bit overnight, we can definitely find some performance. So, that’s our aim tonight, we’ll see if we can come back stronger tomo

What the teams said - Friday at the 2021 Portugese Grand Prix

Mercedes A rocky opening to FP1 that saw Hamilton label the car as “undriveable” morphed into a pretty solid day in the end for the Silver Arrows. The reigning world champion struggled to get his soft tyres into a good working window in the first session, but nailed his preparation lap in FP2 to grab the top spot. As for Bottas, he looked the happier of the two in the morning before dropping back marginally as the day wore on. Top in both sessions as a team – but can they stay there tomorrow, with Red Bull hot on their heels?

Lando Norris: Difference at McLaren is incredible

Norris: Difference at McLaren is ‘incredible’ Date published: April 25 2021 Lando Norris has hailed the “incredible” difference at McLaren from when they were struggling down the F1 order compared to now. The 21-year-old Briton enjoyed a superb Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend, vying for a front-row start in qualifying – a challenge that was ultimately thwarted when he exceeded track limits on his last flying lap – before claiming his second F1 podium finish in the race. With Mercedes engines in the back of their cars, McLaren look to have made another step up in terms of competitiveness this year having finished third in the 2020 Constructors’ World Championship.

Grandprix.com © Red Bull Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team Valtteri Bottas (1st, 1:15.551): The car is feeling much better than on the first day in Bahrain. As I said yesterday, it is a different track and type of circuit with different grip levels and surface. The weekend has started in a positive way, I m much happier with the balance of the car. The car feels better, we still have the same type of issues as in Bahrain but less so. Still not perfect but we are only on event two out of 23 this season so hopefully we have time to fix it. I feel like we ve made steps forward so that s really good. The whole grid from midfield to the front looks very close. We didn t see the best from Red Bull today but we ll see that in Q3 tomorrow. No doubt they are going to be fast. We still don t think we are the fastest car and we really need to improve on that on Saturday.
