New research shows farmers most likely to be killed on Monday as cases surge Farm murder is on the increase in South Africa and in many cases victims are violently tortured by burning, beating and stabbing. South African farm murders, mostly committed in  KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Freestate, are escalating despite lockdown and many victims are suffering torture by burning, beating and stabbing at the hands of their violent attackers.  The province that is recording the lowest level of farm murders is the Western Cape followed by the Northern Cape and Limpopo. This was among the findings of a research report entitled Farm Murders in South Africa 2020 – An analysis of recorded incidents compiled by Andrea Muller and released by Afriforum on Wednesday.

She was one of 63 people murdered on SA’s farms in 2020, according to AfriForum, which on Wednesday released its farm attack and farm murder statistics for 2020. The group said the past year saw an increase in farm murders, but farm attacks had decreased.

KZN leading in farm murders: AfriForum By Thobeka Ngema Share Durban - KWAZULU-NATAL is the leading province with the most farm murders recorded in 2020, according to statistics released by AfriForum. The statistics were released two days after two best friends, Nhlanhla Mhlongo, 22, and Sakhile Cele, 25, were arrested and appeared in court for murder of retired KZN farmer Goberdhan “Dan” Sahadew, 74, at his home at Holmbosch Farm on February 6, 2021, from which he ran a tuck shop. Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the friends allegedly locked the door, assaulted, strangled, and stabbed Sahadew once on the chest. They took his cellphones, shotgun, cash and other items and drove away in his vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned not far from the crime scene. His body was found by customers.
