Andrew Lane
C.E.O. Lane is now hoping that G.O.B. will honor that M.O.U. and keep the sugar shipments in Belize. And he says if that happens, they want to transition into moving the Collective Bargaining Agreement forward with the C.W.U. as soon as possible. But we’ll only know what happens next week and although Lane has appealed to the stevedores to end the go slow, he says they are really in the hands of the workers – and hopes that G.O.B. will decide in their favour or else that will send them scrambling to make contingencies.

Fertilizer Prices Increasing
And what about other locally produced commodities? Will prices go up? This is a real concern in the agriculture industry. At the last House Meeting, Corozal North area rep Hugo Patt expressed concerns about the cost of fertilizers and what it would mean for the cost of production in the agricultural sector. Today, Agriculture Minister says those concerns are valid. He says that while he hasn’t seen the increase at the store where he purchases fertilizers, he has received credible reports from importers that the prices may double and combined with the increasing cost of freight. Mai says that can mean a cost of production for farmers and ultimately an increase in consumer prices.

Isidro was reportedly in the company of two other men. According to Lopez, the shots appeared to have scared Isidro and he fell and went underwater. But she says the lawmen refused to help him because they said he was a Guatemalan.

Michael Spain
Forty-six-year old Michael Spain, better known as Brown, was discovered dead inside his house just after eight o’clock this morning in Georgeville. His brother went to the house to make checks after they hadn’t seen him in two days and that’s when he found him dead. David McDougall says his brother’s body appeared to be in the early stages of decomposition and that he observed what appeared to be abrasions on the face. He tells News Five that he hopes the authority investigates the matter while they await the results of the post-mortem.
