While the couple said on May 4 that they took the decision after a lot of thought , people have been trying to guess the reason that led to the separation after 27 years of togetherness. Recently, a report claimed that the Microsoft Co-founder s Chinese interpreter had a role to play in it.

The former Seattle Post-Intelligencer investigative reporter, who wrote two books about the Microsoft co-founder in the ‘90s, wondered if the billionaire would go back to his hard-partying bachelor days now that his marriage to Melinda Gates is over. A lot of those Microsoft kids back then, they were young guys in pizza-stained t-shirts for two or three days working on software code, he told the U.K.’s DailyMail on Monday. Then they would have some pretty wild parties, where they would go out and get strippers in Seattle and bring them over to Bill’s home. He wasn’t a choir boy back then, he wasn’t just this little computer nerd. He did have a life back then.

In that vacuum, rumors have begun to flow, as they always do about high-profile splits, and one colleague of Bill Gates’ has found herself in the crosshairs: Chinese interpreter Zhe “Shelly” Wang, who has worked for The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation since 2015. While it’s unclear exactly where the rumors started, at least one popular tweet alleging a romantic relationship between Wang and Bill Gates can be found, and the rumors that Wang was the reason for his split from Melinda grew to the extent that she allegedly issued a public response on Chinese social media platform Weibo, per Page Six.
Bill and Melinda Gates had barely finished saying the “D” word when all kinds of marriage counsellors and gossipmongers besieged Nigerian social media with theories about why they think the couple is breaking up.
The sentiments, ranging from the probable to the bizarre, have defied the couple’s request for privacy. Misery loves company. Some accounts even make you wonder if the composers might have had a bedside view of the 27-year-old marriage.
A break-up is a messy thing. You don’t have to experience it to know. But for all those who are outside, looking in, it always seems that one or the other partners could have done this or that to save the marriage. A failing marriage is easier saved by outsiders.
