BARROW Council spent nearly £6,500 on camera equipment to record meetings. The council bought in equipment to live steam meetings after councillors returned to town hall following virtual gatherings. Among the purchases were a £5,300 custom computer and a £391 Canon camera. Other items included a £268 computer monitor. In total £6,459 was spent on nine pieces of equipment. The purchases were revealed in response to a freedom of information request. Emergency legislation was put in place by the Government last year which allowed councils to hold meetings virtually. After the legislation ran out, the council agreed to continue to stream meetings while Covid restrictions remain in place, upon which time it is due to be reviewed.
