“It’s like we’re back in the Victorian days, it’s just not acceptable. “I feel schools are more interested in uniforms and attendance rather than supporting families, especially during this difficult time.” A Year Ten parent, who didn’t want to be named, said her son was left deeply upset by the potential punishment. She said: “I know a lot of parents were really worried about it. “They retracted the message but it was still sent out and raised a lot of anxiety and stress. “My son was stressed to go into school. He was so worried.” Kursaal ward councillor Matt Dent praised the school for the quick U-turn but queried why the original message was sent.
