(WBRC) - The DCH mass COVID-19 vaccination site sat empty, other than a hospital van slowly creeping through the parking Tuesday afternoon. A hospital spokesman says they will restart vaccinations at the location Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. They’re also prepared to vaccinate people who couldn’t get the shot on Monday and Tuesday when the site was closed due to severe winter weather. “We didn’t have anything specifically scheduled for the weekend. So we were able to move those appointments to Saturday if you were scheduled for Monday and Sunday if you were scheduled for Tuesday,” said Andy North.

But people with DCH aren’t the only folks working to distribute vaccines. “Anything we can do to help facilitate getting shots in arms we’re willing to do with our resources,” Tuscaloosa Probate Judge Rob Robertson explained. He said Tuscaloosa County is one of several groups offering help to vaccinate people here from coronavirus. The county is providing traffic control support and paramedics to assist in the effort at DCH’s remote site.

Even as DCH Health System expands COVID-19 vaccinations into the 1A plus crowd  adding police, firefighters, and those over 75 to the 1A designation of healthcare workers and those in communal living  it could potentially double the 800 shots it s delivering per week, if more of the Pfizer vaccine doses were available. We have the capacity at DCH to offer many more appointment times than we are currently, said Andy North, DCH vice president of marketing and communications. The appointment book is filled every week through February, and into the first days of March. What we know at this point is as we use up the vaccine, and report back our usage rate, that makes us eligible to get more vaccine, if there is any, North said.
