GREEN-FINGERED school students mindful of the environment have planted several fruit trees which they will now continue to look after. Pupils at the Cann Hall Primary School, in Constable Avenue, Clacton, have been learning about the importance of looking after the planet since before Christmas. After reading The Promise by Nicola Davies, which reinforces themes of determination and environment, they planted blubs in the school grounds. Following a lengthy delay, due to the pandemic, the eco-conscious students have now planted fruit trees on a piece of land not far from their school. They will now maintain the area regularly and plans are in place for them to install polite notices reminding people to take home their litter and other mess.
Greene County Commissioners designate National Volunteer Week
XENIA Greene County Commissioners on Thursday designated April 18-24 as “National Volunteer Week.”
Focus is being placed squarely on Greene County Archives.
A resolution passed by the commissioners acknowledges that volunteers at Greene County Archives play a vital part in the processing, organization, indexing, and preparation of historical records-projects. Normally, staff members would not have the time to work on such aspects.
“It’s an opportunity to express our appreciation to the volunteers for all of the work they do for us,” Greene County Records Manager and Archivist Robin Heise said. “Our volunteers mean the world to us.”

A BEACH blaze which was started days after a coastal village was hit with several arson attacks in one night was started deliberately. Essex firefighters were called to Beach Way, Jaywick, shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday following reports of a fire on the seafront. Upon arrival they found what residents believe to have been a pile of waste and wood which had been torched not far from the water. After working on quelling the fire for roughly half an hour, the crews managed to safely extinguish the blaze by 8pm. A spokeswoman for the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said it is being treated as arson.
