Doris Turner In a unanimous vote on Saturday, Feb. 6, Doris Turner of Springfield was chosen by Democratic Party officials to represent state Senate District 48, which includes all or parts of Springfield, Decatur, Taylorville and Litchfield. The Springfield City Council passed an ordinance authorizing a development agreement with the Springfield Park District for improvements in parks in the Enos Park and Madison Park tax-increment financing districts during a special meeting Tuesday.
The final adoption came with an amendment: The park district won t get money from the city until it makes improvements on the parks, and the money doled out will be on a project-by-project basis.
The amendment further limited the park district to spending any leftover money on two parks Comer Cox and Chamberlain both in the Far East TIF District, which is contiguous to both the Enos Park and Madison Park Place TIF districts.
Within the past three weeks, the Illinois Senate has welcomed three new members.
Last Saturday, another Turner â State Sen. Doris Turner, a Springfield alderman and the Sangamon County Democratic Party chairwoman â was selected to fill the seat of former state Sen. Andy Manar, who resigned to become a senior advisor to Gov. J.B. Pritzker. She is the first Black person to represent Central Illinois in the Senate.
