17-May-2021 The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center (DEVCOM AvMC), Boeing and GE recently completed all the planned test points under a multi-year demonstration program of a U.S. Army NCH-47D Chinook helicopter powered by GE’s advanced T408 turboshaft engine. The success of this effort demonstrates how integration of more powerful engines on the H-47 Chinook could support future aircraft capability and Army Aviation modernization efforts while reducing technical and integration risk. The joint demonstration team conducted a total of 18 ground tests from late 2019 into early 2021. Despite travel restrictions posed by COVID-19 and social distancing measures while on post at Fort Eustis, the combined team was able to complete all required ground tests, leading successfully and safely, to the aircraft’s first flight in September 2020.
