Chamber provides higher marks for legislators

The Indiana Chamber of Commerce s annual report scoring state lawmakers on key business legislation saw overall marks – ranging from 42% to 97% – rise from last year.
“The Legislative Vote Analysis is our annual method to quantify for citizens and employers how their lawmakers voted on issues vital to the state s economy,” Indiana Chamber President and CEO Kevin Brinegar said. “For many legislators, the scores are higher this year. In fact, the average scores for House Republicans, House Democrats and Senate Republicans all improved.”
Bills included for examination in the analysis can be traced back to the Indiana Chamber s economic development plan. Among the legislation included in the report that became law: civil immunity for businesses related to COVID-19; broadband expansion in underserved areas and populations; and further business personal property tax exemption for small businesse

INDIANAPOLIS – Attorney General Todd Rokita issued an advisory opinion Wednesday that Indiana University can t require proof of the COVID-19 immunization under a recent vaccine passport law passed by the Indiana legislature.
The opinion is nonbinding but could set up a legal showdown if someone challenges the IU policy in the courts.
“This session, members of the Indiana General Assembly passed legislation to codify in law a prohibition on COVID-19 vaccine passports, preventing public institutions from mandating proof of vaccination as a condition for receiving services or employment,” Rokita said. “Indiana University s policy clearly runs afoul of state law – and the fundamental liberties and freedoms this legislation was designed to protect.”
