It s about time, says Lord Peter Hain 27 April 2021 11:10 AM Share This: The United Kingdom has implemented new sanctions to stop notoriously corrupt people from entering and channeling money through the UK. Under a new anti-corruption regime, the UK has imposed sanctions on 22 individuals, including the Gupta brothers and their business associate Salim Essa. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab recently announced the UK’s first sanctions under the new Global Anti-Corruption regime. Anti-apartheid activist and former British MP, Lord Peter Hain has welcomed the sanctions introduced by the UK. Lord Hain has been advocating for legislation to stop corrupt individuals using the UK banks for their money laundering schemes.

The legacy of murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence is one of hope and that change is possible, his parents have said. Neville and Doreen Lawrence made the comment 28 years to the day since their son was murdered in an unprovoked attack by a gang of racists in Eltham, south-east London, and as a public inquiry into shadowy undercover policing tactics held a minute’s silence in his memory. They said: “Despite the brutal circumstances of Stephen’s death, those left behind have campaigned to ensure that his legacy is ultimately one of hope, reminding us that change is both much needed but also possible.”
