There are Beale Street Blues alright, but not the kind you want to hear or see

MEMPHIS, Tenn. Beale Street is feeling a little blue this holiday season thanks to the COVID pandemic.
This would normally be a busy time on Beale filled with excitement. The big parade before the AutoZone Liberty Bowl game as well as the guitar drop at midnight to ring in the new year will both be missing. Unfortunately, Beale Street is quiet and empty.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. The winningest class in the history of the Army football program will cap their careers later today in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl against West Virginia.
Shortly after bowl bids were announced in mass on December 20, the Black Knights, despite their 9-2 record, were denied a bid. As an FBS independent, the lack of a conference tie-in and the cancellation of their original game in the Independence Bowl left Army on the sidelines while schools like Tennessee (3-7) and South Carolina (2-8) received bids. COVID cases on the UT roster opened the door for Army to face the Mountaineers.

It was a crazy week for Liberty Bowl executive director Steve Ehrhart.
It started on Sunday with the announcement that West Virginia and Tennessee had been selected to participate in the 62nd AutoZone Liberty Bowl, which is slated for 4 p.m. (Eastern time) on Thursday, Dec. 31 in Memphis.
That was the normal part of the bowl selection process, but from there, things turned crazy.
“We were all excited when we had our press conference Sunday night,” said Ehrhart about the original WVU/UT matchup. “Everything was hunky-dory, and then, bam, on Monday morning I get a call (from Tennessee athletic director Phil Fulmer) telling me they had really serious problems in terms of the (COVID-19) testing. They had tested on Sunday and the results coming in Monday morning were not good. I could tell there was a lot of pessimism.
