Garry Lyon was left surprised by Geelongâs inability to exploit Tom Hawkinsâ match-up on Melbourne utility Adam Tomlinson.
Demons defender Steven May was substituted out of Sundayâs game with a bloodied eye after copping an accidental elbow from Hawkins in the second quarter.
It meant Tomlinson was tasked with stopping the 2020 Coleman Medallist in Mayâs absence and did a serviceable job as the Dees made it four straight wins to start the season.
Melbourne finished +12 for inside 50s and had 10 more scoring shots with Hawkins taking five marks and booting two goals.

Collingwood slumped to its third defeat of the season when going down to GWS by 30 points at the MCG on Saturday night.
The somewhat listless nature of the defeat prompted a discussion on the Magpies, coach Nathan Buckley and what the future holds.
Garry Lyon has described their current situation as painful while asking the question if Buckley still has the desire to endure in the role.
âTheyâre in a world of pain,â he said on
SEN Breakfast.
âNathan Buckley is going to find out whether the desire to be a coach still burns as brightly and as fiercely inside his guts as it did when he started.
