Nelson Hopes To See Gazebo, Landscaping Finished

Genevieve County presiding commissioner hopes to see the gazebo and landscaping at the south end of the new county parking lot completed as soon as weather allows. In April 2019, local historian Bob Mueller and local business owner Lawrence Myers, who is also an architect, provided plans for a bicentennial plaza for the Market Street edge of the property, complete with a memorial to John Scott, Missouri’s first congressman, and landscaping with a grassy area, a bench and various plants. The plants would include hicks yews, European hornbeam and Johnson crabapple.

County Road Crew Is Lauded For Work During Snow Event

Genevieve County roads and bridge foreman, was proactive in dealing with the two-to-three inches of snow that struck the county the night of Jan.  26 (Tuesday night) and during the day, Jan. 27. On Tuesday, Schmieder pulled road crews off of other jobs and had them begin salting and preparing county roads for bad weather. “You made a good decision,” Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson told him at last Thursday’s County Commission meeting. “You were prepared for the snow.” Schmieder said the preparation and the plowing that came later, went without major incident.

Low COVID Numbers Mixed Blessing

The county had just 27 active cases last Thursday, but had still received well below 1,000 total doses of vaccine. Jennifer Mueller, county health department administrator told the Ste. Genevieve County Commission that  the organization and Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) had collectively received 500 doses for this Tuesday’s immunization event at the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center. Progress Sports Complex. “We collectively received 500 doses, which already are spoken for, for Tuesday at the community center,” she said. “Luckily the hospital was able to get another 400 that will be given Wednesday.”

Kreitler Reports To Commission On Successful License Office Launch

By Editor | January 12, 2021 By mark Evans mevans@stegenherald.com Dena Kreilter, executive director of the Ste. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce, reported to the Ste. Genevieve County Commission last Thursday that business was booming at the newly-reopened county license office. Kreitler since the office had been “swamped” since reopening on Jan. 4, after being closed more than nine months. The first day the office processed 168 transactions, Kreitler said. Two people from the Missouri Department of Revenue were there to help out and had told Kreitler, “If we see 40 people, we’ll be surprised.” Kreitler said the state people “couldn’t believe it” when the stream of customers continued all day.
