NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Audubon Nature Institute’s Party for the Planet presented by Entergy is a series of virtual events and activities making a positive impact on the natural world. This year’s campaign will continue to focus on healthy habitats with three action areas: clean, create, and connect with nature.
The virtual festivities kick off during Earth Week on April 18 and run through June 27. Virtual events include taking action on Endangered Species Day, World Oceans Day, and Pollinator Week.
Families can virtually follow along with activities by tuning into Audubon’s social media channels to discover imaginative new ways to experience nature, create healthy habitats, and help neighbors, big and small, from home.

Audubon’s Penguin Pass Revamped for Covid
Audubon Aquarium’s Backstage Penguin Pass experience has been revamped to meet COVID safety guidelines, including social distancing, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
“Give the penguin lover in your life the gift that gives back this Valentine’s Day,” said Vice President and Managing Director of Audubon Aquarium of the Americas Rich Toth. “Our endangered African penguins at the Aquarium serve as ambassadors, teaching guests about the plight of this species in the wild due to human-wildlife conflict. We encourage participants to take action and keep the sea plastic-free by refusing, reducing, reusing, and recycling plastics.”
NOAA Triples Gulf of Mexico Marine Sanctuary Area
GALVESTON, Texas, January 22, 2021 (ENS) – One of the last acts of the outgoing Trump administration was taken by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, which has tripled the area protected by the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary in the Gulf of Mexico.
On January 19, NOAA issued the Final Rule for expansion of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. This action protects 14 additional reefs and banks, slightly adjusts the boundaries of the sanctuary’s original three banks, and expands the sanctuary from 56 square miles to a total of 160 square miles.
