Hudsonville parents urging school to drop mask mandate HUDSONVILLE Parents in an Ottawa County school district are asking for school leaders to make masks optional in the classroom. A group of parents showed up to a Hudsonville Public Schools Board of Education meeting to urge the district to lift its mask mandate, according to a report from MLive. Upwards of 50 people, most not wearing masks, showed up to the meeting, some of which were locked out due to capacity restrictions. The push comes as the state and Ottawa County are seeing a sharp increase COVID-19 case rates and hospitalizations. Ottawa County is averaging more than 210 new cases per day over the past week.

Gretchen Whitmer said Wednesday the state is working to expand access to therapeutic treatments for COVID-19 and its variants, as Michigan continues to face the highest case rates in the U.S. Whitmer and Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, the state s chief medical executive, announced the state is making efforts to expand access to monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatments. The treatments were used to treat former President Donald Trump when he contracted COVID-19 in 2020. No details on the expansion plan were announced Wednesday. Officials said the state was working to access mAb treatments produced by pharmaceutical manufacturers Eli Lilly and Regeneron, specifically.
