GUWAHATI: Prisoners, old age home residents and people with special needs will be given the status of top priority citizens enabling them to get vaccinated at their doorstep.
With the support of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state health department is mulling over a new app for enlisting these beneficiaries. Apart from vaccination at workplaces, the health department is wary of encouraging door-to-door inoculation because if any adverse effect happens after the shot, urgent hospitalisation could be difficult.
However, there is a growing demand for vaccination at home of people who cannot go to vaccination centres on health grounds and other reasons. The health department is preparing an SOP for vaccinating such people at home. Himanta Biswa Sarma on the final day of his first assembly session after becoming Chief Minister of Assam this Monday said the government would take every action within the ambit of the constitution to protect cows in the state.

Assam chief minister Sarma while speaking in the state assembly said, “Cow is our mother. We will not allow the coming of cows from West Bengal. Those places where cows are worshipped, beef must not be consumed. It does not mean that everybody has to give up and change habits all of a sudden.”
