Ringgit dips vs greenback as oil price dips

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened slightly lower against the US dollar this morning as the oil price had declined amidst concerns that the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant would ease demand for fuel, an analyst said. At 9.03 am, the local note declined to 4.1470/1500 versus the greenback from 4.1445/1495 at Monday’s close. At the time of writing, benchmark Brent crude oil slipped 0.32 per cent to US$74.44 per barrel. Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd economist, Adam Mohamed Rahim said oil benchmark Brent crude dipped by 1.9 per cent yesterday over concerns that the spread of a COVID-19 variant in Europe and Austria will lead to less travel, putting pressure on oil prices.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar this morning, backed by firmer crude oil prices amid market volatility, as the Full movement control order (FMCO) was set to be extended, a dealer said. At 9.02am, the local note rose to 4.1485/1515 versus the greenback from 4.1560/1575 at Friday’s close. At the time of writing, benchmark Brent crude oil increased 0.38 per cent to US$76.47 per barrel.
