SALT LAKE CITY Utah County delegates elected the first female county commissioner at the Utah County Convention on Saturday.
Amelia Powers Gardner won 54.7% of the special election vote and, pending official action by the county s board of commissioners, she will fill the vacancy left by Tanner Ainge, who joined the governor s team earlier this year. I just can t wait to get to work, Gardner said on Saturday, thanking Utah County for your faith and confidence. She said she s both humbled and honored to have been selected.
Gardner s campaign aimed at preparing for the future growth of Utah County, which is one of the fastest growing counties in the country.

SALT LAKE CITY Gov.-elect Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov.-elect Deidre Henderson have nominated Bountiful Police Chief Tom Ross as executive director of the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice.
Ross was born in Salt Lake City and has 34 years of law enforcement experience, including 14 years as the Bountiful police chief.
His appointment would become official if he is confirmed by the Utah Senate.
