The State’s planning watchdog has expressed concern that Kildare County Council is proposing to rezone several parcels of undeveloped lands on the outskirts of Naas that are prone to flooding.
The Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) claims proposals in the council’s new draft local area plan for Naas to rezone lands for housing and industrial use in a number of locations identified as high-risk flood areas are premature.

Residents who successfully campaigned against the completion of the Naas ring road system are again objecting to the creation of a road which will pass close to their estates.
In June 2019, the €10m Naas ring road, linking Dublin Road and Blessington Road, was overwhelmingly rejected by local councillors.
The controversial route, which would have connected Dublin Road with Blessington Road, was thrown out by a huge majority (6-1) of the councillors representing the Naas area at their first meeting after the local elections took place on May 24 that year.

TRAFFIC: Vehicle on fire on Naas to Blessington road

Emergency services are dealing with a vehicle fire this afternoon on the Naas to Blessington Road (R410) at Eadestown.
Gardaí are directing traffic, but care is needed in the area as smoke may be affecting visibility, AA Roadwatch said.
Meanwhile there are delays heading into Naas on the Dublin Road (R445).
It’s also slow both ways on the Kilcullen Road between the Kilcullen Rd Roundabout and Piper’s Hill.
Elsewhere, it’s busy heading into Clane on the Prosperous Road (R403).
