19th Dhaka Int’l Film Festival to be held in a hybrid format with safety precautions

The 19th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) will kick off tomorrow at the main auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum. This year s festival is dedicated to the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Government of the People s Republic of Bangladesh, Dr A K Abdul Momen MP is expected to be the chief guest on the occasion, along with Indian High Commissioner H.E. Vikram K Doraiswami as a special guest. Owing to the ongoing pandemic, the DIFF will be held in a hybrid format, with both physical and virtual arrangements.

Mayar Jonjal wins best feature film jury award in Italy The New Nation

Mayar Jonjal (Debris of Desire), a Bangladesh-India co-production, won the Jury Award for Best Feature Film in Italy. Directed by Indranil Roy Chowdhury and produced by Jasim Ahmed, Mayar Jonjal won the award among nine official selections of Encounter with Asian Cinema at the competition section of the 21st edition of the Asiatic Film Festival in Rome.
The festival was held from December 18 to 23 with the announcement of the award. The invited motion pictures were shown through online screening this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, Mayar Jonjal took place in the official selection of Shanghai International Film Festival

‘Debris of Desire’ wins Jury Award for Feature Film at Asiatica Film Festival in Italy Arts & Entertainment Desk Arts & Entertainment Desk Debris of Desire , a film produced by Bangladeshi filmmaker Josim Ahmed and the Indian production house Flipbook, has won the Jury Award for Feature Film out of the 8 films from the official selection in the 21st Asiatica Film Festival (Asiatica - Encounters with Asian Cinema), in Italy. The festival aims to enrich the cinematographic experience with other cultural expressions and foster knowledge about social, economical and political issues around the Eastern continent. The event, which began on December 18, concluded on December 23, with the award-giving ceremony. This year, screenings of the selected films were held virtually, owing to the ongoing pandemic.
