Ramon Alexander s campaign to lead the Florida House Democrats during the 2023 and 2024 legislative sessions quickly picked up momentum before he officially announced it Monday.
Rep. Ben Diamond, D-St. Petersburg, was in line to become the next House Democratic Leader. But he announced he s leaving the House to run for the congressional seat now held by Charlie Crist, who himself is now a Democratic candidate for governor in 2022.
Alexander is in his third term representing Leon and Gadsden counties. Once word of Diamond’s plans began to spread last week, House Democrats began to contact Alexander about the leadership position.
