Two MMA fighters who compete for ONE Championship are among those who have voiced their opposition to the military coup that took place in Myanmar last month.
Light-heavyweight champion Aung La N Sang and featherweight Phoe Thaw spoke in favor of peaceful demonstrations while raising awareness about the military’s brutal oppression of Myanmar’s citizens.
“To my international friends and family, it has been 16 days (since) the military has seized power in my home country,” N Sang wrote on social media. “The people of Myanmar have responded immediately in the masses with peaceful demonstrations and a nationwide Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) that involves government agencies, teachers, doctors, lawyers, engineers and even the police across the country. Filipino-American fighter Brandon Vera felt honored to appear as a guest athlete in ONE Championship’s edition of “The Apprentice.”
Vera joined a long list of legendary mixed martial artists who showed up as guest athletes in the hit reality television series, namely two-division UFC champion Georges St-Pierre, former ONE and Bellator welterweight titleholder Ben Askren, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu icon Renzo Gracie among others.
“It was very educational and refreshing not to have any pressure on me in front of the camera. I got to learn a lot from the candidates. I look forward to seeing ‘The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition, ” said Vera. “It was an honor, an absolute privilege to be standing next to greatness both in the martial arts and business worlds.”
“I am humbled and honored for Coach [Henri Hooft], [Aung La N Sang] and the whole group [Sanford MMA] for welcoming me into the fold,” said the 43-year-old Vera. “Iron sharpens Iron and during this #corona world it’s hard to find a fire burning hot enough, let alone them inviting you in [with] open arms.”
The names of Arjan Bhullar of India and Amir Aliakbari of Iran, two renowned wrestlers who signed with ONE Championship last year, and recent winners Mauro Cerilli of Italy and Oumar Kane of Senegal are on Vera’s radar.
Vera was scheduled to fight Bhullar last May at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City but was scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And there were certainly some talking points at the close of the show.
Stamp Fairtex looked to be well on her way to victory against
Alyona Rassohyna in the main event, but a last-gasp guillotine changed everything. The Ukrainian tied up Stamp, but the Thai appeared to be in a position where she could survive until the final bell.
