Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a car on Sandringham Road shortly before 4am today.
The pedestrian was transported to Auckland Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The vehicle left the scene immediately following the crash and has yet to be located.
A scene examination is being carried out on Sandringham Road this morning and the road will be closed while that is carried out.
Motorists are thanked in advance for their patience and cooperation.
Police would like to hear from anyone who has information which could help our enquiries, who has not yet spoken to us.

Police will examine CCTV footage of a hit and run incident which left an Auckland pedestrian with serious injuries.
The man was hit on Sandringham Rd,
As the pedestrian remains in a serious but stable condition in Auckland Hospital, police today said they were still hunting the driver of the vehicle.
They were now looking at CCTV footage of the wider area - central West Auckland - and asked anyone who had seen the vehicle involved or had any other information on the driver to get in touch.

A pedestrian was hit by a car on Sandringham Rd shortly before 4am. The vehicle didn t stop and left the scene, police said. It has yet to be located.
Detective Inspector Uraia Vakaruru said the pedestrian was transported to Auckland Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Vakaruru said in a statement police would like to hear from anyone who has information which could help, and asked them to call Auckland City Crime Squad on 09 302 6557.
Meanwhile, police attended the scene of a serious crash between a car and a motorbike in Te Puke, Bay of Plenty this afternoon.

Police are examining CCTV footage after a Sunday morning hit-and-run in Auckland that left a pedestrian seriously injured. A 22-year-old man was struck by a car on Sandringham Rd, shortly before 4am on Sunday. The vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash and has not been located, police said. A police spokesman said as part of police inquiries CCTV footage from the wider Sandringham area was being examined.
